getting VERY depressed
Please help me, I can't take it anymore. :confused:

Ok, so last night I was getting the 'iPod is not connected' message, and finally gave up and went to bed. Today, the message is 'can't mount iPod'. What in the world is going on?? I bought it saturday night but didn't open it until last night because I had to go out and buy a blasted firewire card. I feel like I'm aging just waiting for this thing to work.
Please help me, I can't take it anymore. :confused:

Just rebooted, and now we are back to 'iPod is not connected'. :(Sorry, just rebooted yet again, and the 'can't mount iPod' message is back.

ok, i seem to be making some progress, but i'm still confused:now at least the pc recognizes the ipod, and i have the little icon for it with the arrow over it in the taskbar.
but, updater still says 'can't mount ipod' ?
ephpod found the drive, but it won't recognize any mp3's that were already on the pc. ?
the ipod says 'do not disconnect'.
sooo...what should i do now?? and how do i disconnect it or get it to 'mount', and get ephpod to recognize my pre-downloaded mp3's??

hmm not sure. but people are saying a firewire card with a via chipset on it is supposed to work properly... ( i need to find one :( ) the one with texas instruments like mine will not work... ( weird as theres a texas instruments firewire chip inside the ipod itself. i just wasted ?30 on the stupid card.XiXora at 2007-11-15 17:11:04 >

the adaptec fireconnect 4300 is the best one imho.

This is driving me insane. my iPod is hooked up to the computer, and i've got the little icon in the taskbar showing, and when i click on device manager it shows up fine, yet updater tells me 'can't mount ipod'. Someone advised me to do a quick format of the ipod drive under control panel, but it wouldn't do a quick one, only a 'thorough' one, and even then when it was almost done it advised me to run scandisk, but i didn't because of some message it gave me. I was also told to delete the 'ipod_control' folder in the drive info on control panel, did that. but when I open ephpod, it tells me it has to update it and give it an ipod_control folder because the ipod is missing it. ??
anyone? anyone? bueller? bueller??

IT WORKS!!!!!!!I had to go exchange it for a new one at CompUSA earlier tonight, but now everything works!!!!!!!!!

hmm. i've had 2 ipods now but my ipod dont work with that firewire card :/ well i'm borrowing someones laptop to restore it in a bit. hopefully his mactop has the right os installed. or it could be my os? ( win xp i restinalled it just for the ipod too )XiXora at 2007-11-15 17:16:03 >

@XiXoraI'm looking to get a firewire card off UK ebay, but wasn't sure which one to go for.
One seller I found has VIA chipset models for sale for ?17.99 buy-it-now. If you think VIA is supposed to work, I'll give one a try!

In reply to Triste's question... yes it does charge.. But thats all its doing now.. I think something is broken in the iPod.. but it will charge through the pc (WinXP Pro). Hope this helps.
