LOTR or Matrix?

Which movie do you think is (or will be) the bigger/more popular trilogy?

Personally, I go for LOTR, too. I think the "R" rating of Matrix will keep it below LOTR in the short run, but in the long run, Matrix will be more popular.

I'll make a more informed decision after viewing the Matrix Reloaded in a couple of days. :D

without question the matrix trilogy is more ground breaking when it comes to cinematography. the visual effects of the first movie lifted special effects into a entirely new artform, and if the reviews can be believed, it seems john gaeta raised the bar to unapproachable heights in the matrix reloaded. admittedly the first two lotr movies completely blew me away in terms of the "grandness" of the scenery, but not in the way the matrix did. that said, i absolutely love both trilogies.
has any one of you guys seen the animatrix episodes? if ya haven?t, ya outta! totaly shagadelic, baby!

:D

Man what a tough question. I would have to say that the story of LOTR is better, but the sweet visuals of the Matrix ROCK. Tough call, very tough call...

Matrix, definitely.

I know how the Lord of the Rings trilogy ends. I know everything that happens from point A to point Z. Sure, it's very pretty to look at, very well made, and very well acted. But it's the same story all over again.

Just because someone releases a "remastered" Led Zeppelin CD or a new Led Zeppelin boxed set doesn't mean that you're gonna hear new Zep songs, heh.

I still haven't seen the second LOTR movie. No movies in the budget really, especially one in which I know everything that's going to happen. I dinna go see the remaster of E.T. either.

Now the Matrix, on the other hand. Well, I want to know what hapens! You can bet your sweet southern behind that I'll go see it!

I'm about to see The Matrix: Reloaded in 3 hours at a special engagement screening at my local movie theater. (10 PM PST) :D I already bought tickets on Fandango.

I know exactly what happens in the LOTR series, too. I still want to see how beautifully and faithfully they'll reproduce the books, so I'd have to choose LOTR. That and...well...I have a confession:

I'm the only living person who has never seen The Matrix. I'm trying to decide if maintaining that status is worth it.

I think Matrix will be more successful in the Boxoffice. I think it has more appeal than LOTR.

I'm going to give props to both movies here. In the Matrix series, you have inovating cinematograpy, as well as a unique story line that will definately make you think. You are introduced to new characters and lets just face it that action ROCKS!!!! LOTR, however, you have a series in classic literature that really comes to life. If any of you are like me you read this series of books in school and could just imagine in your mind "Middle Earth" and all who inhabit it. This has finally come to life and be known as one of the greatest trilogies of all time. The Matrix trilogy should be categorized with the LOTR as one of those trilogies, like Star Wars, the Godfather, that you will remember and put in your DVD collection and much over and over agian. The are two different films. LOTR is classic literature brought to life on the screen, which has been anticipated for decades. The Matrix was one film that spanned into a trilogy (eventhough that is what the BROS had in mind in the beginning) There were reason's why the matrix is summer blockbuster and LOTR is in the Christmas season. There have been more films nominated for Oscars that are released around Christmas then the Summer Blockbusters.

Anyway off my rant, both movies are going to kick major A$$ and I'm just happy I live in a time where I can see them all: LOTR,The Matrix, Star Wars everthing!

personaly i like si-fi more than fantasy, so it would have to be the matrix for me (thought reloaded rocked, but bullet time has become "let's just slow-mow this for the sake of doing it" now, what a shame)

although i like the lord of the rings, i've never read the books except for the hobbit so i like that it's all new to me.

i own the dvds for both, and think that they are both great, i just "get into" the matrix more

I am a huge fan of cinematography. It is what I watch movies for. I just watched the first Matrix last night to refresh my memory for Reloaded later today. I think, based soley on cinematography that the LOTR series is better. It has such a huge scale that the Matrix does not. The pictures are beautiful. The Matrix relies on special effects (admitedly in a way that no other movie can touch) which creates excitement.

Bottom line: Draw.

# 18 Re: LOTR or Matrix?
I haven;t seen the 2nd LOTR, but I'm expecting that the Matrix people are going to totally blow our minds with Reloaded and come up with something completely unexpected and incredible in Revolution. We have no possible idea what that one's going to be like. (Not to mention the very cool fact that they made the new game along with the movies and it ties in directly with the plot.)
