Help with choosing a music player
I already own an ipod but I am going to be a counselor this summer and really have no way of charging my baby. As a result, I am in the market for a portable cd player. I want a real cheap one that has good battery life and shock protection. Can anyone tell me about particular models that would be of interest to me?

Ok, I'd recommend the cheapest sony with shock protection you can find. Their shock protection actually WORKS, although they may be little more expensive than other brands. I have one, it works great--but I no longer use it because of my ipod...

thank you...anymore suggestions?

I have had nothing but good luck with Panasonic. I have one, my brothers have three of them, and my mom has one. They all work great! Shock protection works and battery life is excellent as well.

To say something about Panasonic, I have a regular Pansonic portable cd player and it's top notch. :D
Simple design and shock protection is superb.

I prefer Panasonic portable CD players over Sony.

Ghetto,
Can you not even get access to a vehicle 12v socket?

im going to be a 2nd year counselor at this camp in Maine. Very rustic, only one outlet that would be suitable and I would never dream of leaving my ipod in the counselor shack for an extended period. I had thought about the car charger but for one, i don't own one, and two, i dont have a car that i will be bringing to camp. I think its a bit rude to ask someone "hey can i suck the life from your battery?" I dunno though, i'm gonna hve to give this some more thought.

Isn't there a thingy now that'll charge the iPod from AA batteries? It can't be any more expensive than a new CD player.

The thingy for 3rd gen iPods! :D
Edit: It doesn't charge the iPod like eustace said, the iPod just runs off of these batteries.

yea when i heard about the battery pack i was so excited i nearly went out and bought a new ipod, but i couldnt find anyone to take my 5gb. Im thinking i just wont bring anything to camp, maybe it will be better that way.

You're going to regret it.

Aw, come on... I know we all love our music, but seriously... when you're at camp, there are so many better things to do! And if he's desperate, I'm sure there'll be a radio or boom box of some kind in the counsellor's lounge. That's pretty much what we listened to when I worked at a camp, since it's hard picking music that everyone can stand usually.
I love my iPod, and it makes my subway trips to & from work much more enjoyable, but sometimes hearing about when people use their iPods (or other mp3 players, or even cell phones) is a little weird to me... mountain-biking? Snowboarding? Shouldn't you be enjoying those activities and the world around you while you're doing them? I guess I'm just not a can't-live-without-my-music type, especially in an outdoor setting. I'd rather sit by a lake in quiet than listen to music, given the choice.
The posts of people talking about heading off to summer camp is making me nostalgic for summers of years gone by, when I was heading off to camp for the summer as well. :(

Ghettogoody,
Have you considered a cheap mp3 portable CD player and burning a few hundred of your fav tunes. You can always get a pretty good deal on blulk AA batteries (i.e. 20 pack) that should last you a little while. AND remember, you are at camp...who needs personal listening time, except possibly while drifting off to sleep (*sometimes*) :)
