Hard Drive Question

Hey all,

I'm not sure where to turn to, so I thought I would ask in the ipod forums. I have a PowerMac G4 and the Quantum HD in it has crashed. I was looking at buying a Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 80GB HD to replace the older one but I'm not sure if it would be compatable. Does anyone know if Maxtor hard drives will work with Apple computers?

Thanks,
2point3L

P.S. To all the moderators, sorry for posting a non iPod question in the forum, I can't seem to find any forum for Apple computer users other then the Apple website forum.

2point3L-
Might I suggest posting your message in the Mac forum ( http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=10) as you will likely get more responces.

Macs use normal ATA/IDE interfaces, so any IDE drive will work.

what you COULD do is buy an iPod, and use it as a hard drive... this way your post is accepted, and you'll have an awesome iPod

hi 2point3l,

no prob posting such a question here. we?re glad to help. mongoos150 wasn?t chiding you, he simply meant the actual mac heads at macforum ought to be able to answer your question better.

in this case, no worries anyway, as you can use that hdd.

I posted the same question in the macForum like mongoos150 suggested. Thanks to cobra and Impulse29 for your help. I will be buying an 80GB Maxtor hard drive then.

I have 2 Maxtor HDs in my G4 Sawtooth and they were easy to install. One is about 2 years old theother is about a year old. No problems at all.
