Completely DEAD iPod 5-GB

My 15-month old iPod is dead and I mean D-E-A-D. I've been through the Reset umpteen times (both with AC and computer) - No good. Since it's off warranty I decided to open it; disconnected the battery and tried to Restore - Not seen by computer. I had just used it the day before. Any ideas ?

Thanks for the replies to my post.I've reluctantly given up on this one and just returned from BestBuy to purchase a new 15-GB model. BTW, I learned that the Buyer Protection Plan (or whatever they call it) is of varying lengths depending on which model you buy. The plan on the 10-GB model costs $39.99 and lasts 2 years but for the same money on a 15-GB or 30-GB you get 4-years coverage.
I think I'll hold on to my original 5-GB in case my daughters' needs any help later on.
