Warranty/breakage
I interested in how many people out there (on this site) have had to use the warranty due to malfunction or product breakage. I realize that by spending 299$/399$/499$ you are ensuring your self with a sturdy and dependable product, yet Im sure that there have been timese where someone dropped their ipod and had it shatter and had to take the bits and pieces back to an apple store to get it replaced. Or someone had some type of reoccouring program error. Another thing to mention would be the lithium battery. There are like four forums that all have different stratigies for not "burning it out"
Anyway,I don't wanna jinx my ipod (which happens to be in the mail right now) but I'm just hoping that there aren't alot of people with broken products.
peace

I bought mine from Best Buy. They have that $40 plan which replaces your iPod if it breaks with a new one. This is VERY WORTH the $40. I think the plan lasts 3 or 4 years, so it's covers a long time.

I would be interested to know what the actual amounts of problems is. It seems like there are a lot but messages boards aren't very scientific. People are much more likley to complain about a problem then to praise something working the way it should.

My sentiments exactly (the plan lasts 4 years, BTW).
I have had my ipod since December; two have malfunctioned, so I am on ipod number three (a gen3, the others were gen2s).
I cannot say enough positive things about the Best Buy plan...
