Line on screen/repair?
Hello,
Was curious to see if anyone's been in the same situation as me. A couple of days ago I was using my 5gb iPod (with the moving wheel) like usual, and the screen started to flip out. The text was sort of "pulsing" and half of it was very faded out, half normal. This stopped after a few minutes, but now there is a vertical line down the screen that doesn't seem to be going away. I haven't ever dropped it, nor has it been exposed to direct sunlight and it was fully charged when this happened.
I called Apple and told the guy on the phone the same thing. He said to send it in for repair, since it's still under the year warranty. I suppose the packing box is on its' way to me now.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Did Apple fix your iPod, or did they say it was your fault and therefore sent it back unfixed? Did you get a new one? I am dying to know what's going to happen because I don't want to live without my iPod for too long ;) Any thoughts or posts from people with similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks
Kim

Hey terylene,
What you have described sorta is what I am currently going through. When ever I would transfer files from my computer to my iPod for 30 to 40 minutes, I would notice a dark line at the right side of my screen. It would stay there until the iPod cooled down. I also noticed that the contrast of the text would become really dark and unreadable.
The first time I phoned Apple I had it sent back for repairs. They then sent it back to me saying nothing was wrong and that they updated the latest firmware (2.0, cause I have a g3 10GB ipod). A lot of help that was...So I lived with it for about 2/3 weeks and it got worse. I phoned Apple again and asked them not to repair it but to replace it entirely. I have sent my iPod off today and hope to get a brand new iPod back next week sometime.
My suggestion to you is send your iPod off (like you have done) and if it returns back to you still not fixed, then call up apple immediately and ask for a replacement iPod.
When does your warranty expire?

Hey thanks for the reply!
Yeah the line still hasn't gone away 2 days later, and also, I haven't done any file transfers lately so I have no idea where this is coming from. The Apple support site said my "item shipped" on the 24th, I guess that means they sent out the packaging to me. Maybe I'll even get it today. I'm going to mail it in right way, for sure. I just hope they don't say there's nothing they can do or it was my fault, etc. I would love to have a replacement but I don't wanna get my hopes up. Would they replace it with the same model? I'm not sure of the generation. I think that it's 1st actually, because I got it last year right before the touch wheel 10 gb and 20 gb came out. The warranty is up in about a month and a half, I think.

I'm not sure if they would replace it with the same model or not. Being a 1st gen iPod they might replace it, and if they do, it could be with a refurbished 5gb iPod (if they are still around). Not sure what would happen in that case. When you do get it back and it still not fixed, definitely phone up apple support and let them know.
Hope I have been of some help to you.
