Earphones ALREADY

Just got my new 15GB ipod yesterday. Today I go to finally listen to it after getting my firewire card installed, and the left ear phone is horribly distorted. I verified it's the left ear phone by trying them with another music player and trying other ear phones with my ipod. So what am I in for? An 8 to 10 week run around trying to get them replaced? Can I go to an apple store? I ordered it from Dell, do I contact them or apple? Any help appreciated, thanks.

I'd think that if you *only* want to return the headphones, you'll have to go through Apple. If you want to send back the whole unit and all the stuff, then Dell may take it back.

There are plenty of suggestions for alternative earphones at reasonable prices, which are considered to be better that the Apple earbuds, to be found in this thread (http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/dennx/index.cgi?board=ipodgear&action=display&num=1030233203) and also in the Gear section (http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/dennx/index.cgi?board=ipodgear) of the old forums.

The Apple earbuds are uncomfortable to wear for any length of time, so why not treat yourself to a second set of earphones/headphones which you can use while you get your Apple ones replaced?

Hmm, it seems like it's the bass hitting really really hard, somehow. So I put the EQ on bass reducer and it makes it less horrible sounding but still really distorted. Can earphones have just the bass screwed up? I would think that's done before the singal ever reaches them...
Also, I've spent more money than I should have on this, another $50 one new ear phones isnt an exciting idea to me, but thanks for the suggestion.

Distortion in ear/headphones tends to manifest at frequency extremes - high trebles/low bass - so this is whaere you will hear it.
Yes, ear/headphones can distort/vibrate at particular freqs.

Try going to the Apple store with your reciept. They are so nice.
I had the same problem and went there to try the ear buds on other ipods. The tech agreed that the bass was cracking and gave me new ones. I'll buy better ones when I get some money.
