not all downloaded music on the web is illegal.
achieve.org has some interesting live stuff, but everything is in FLAC or SHN, which takes awhile to download

Well, the best legal site to get music off of is probably http://www.epitonic.com/ they have a lot of good music and it is all free, legally.

It's not a matter of whether individuals have downloaded material illegally or not, the very act of allowing members to openly discuss where to get illegal file on it's forums puts the iPodlounge into a position where it can be seen to be facilitating illegal downloads and liable to be forced to shut down. For the good of this site it is therefore not particularly clever to ask for or give links to sources of illegal music on the forums.

ill second mikeys recommendation of www.archive.org . i love that site but you have to get used to it first. all you need is a high speed connection, the winamp plug-in so you can play the format and the converter to burn to cd. such a great service with some great music and you dont need to download a program. its also legalbb_dg at 2007-11-15 17:40:32 >

I for one have never downloaded a single illegal song. Thats why I have such a small collection :( I got my Linkin Park tracks from buying their 2 (good) cds, and I got all the rest of my music from iTunes and Napster. Its wrong to download music illegally. If everyone continues *stealing* music, the musicians will not get paid at all. Then there will be no more real music, only the little ands in their garage making a few songs, there will only be low quality music, because a musician cannot make his living from making music. We'll then be in a music vacuum, with no new good music coming out. So why don't you all stop stealing and buy the music legally. On iTunes it is a *dollar* a song. That is cheap. For 20 dollars I have been able to get another hour of high quality music. That rocks! Why rip off the musicians by stealing when there is now a good legal alternative? I download a couple songs as a "sample" from the artist. I usually end up going and buying the cd if i like what i hear. and about coolp's comment. The musicians hardly get anything already because of the RIAA. It depends how you look at it, downloading the music and giving them the 1 dollar for their song or what not directly rather than through the RIAA. So your still ripping off the musician because of the RIAA, you have to look at the big picture. Just because you gave the money for the song, doesn't mean that dollar was given straight to the artist, then your wrong. you can't call that support. the bigger picture is how the RIAA is a greedy hog for carrying out "expenses" for the artists.Chadian22 at 2007-11-15 17:44:29 >
