Carrying Case for iPod and Gear

I have a new iPod and have a question.

Such a nice product but to carry it to where I will be using it is a hassle with all that remote and headphone cord that you have to carry and then untangle when you get ready to use.

What do some of you use so that you don't have to detangle all the cords before starting to use? I'm just looking for some hints.

While I'm at it, any recommendations on a good case that allows you to use the buttons without removing the iPod, allows you to see the screen without removing and includes a belt clip.

I'm not sure this is the kind of answer you're looking for, but...

Y'know those metal hinged boxes (about 2 x 3 inches) that mints come in?

They're great for holding wire bundles. Well, if you carry a purse, they are. So - if you use a backpack or briefcase - they may work for you, too. I carry two of them in my purse: one (regular size) has my headphones (Sony ex71 - I think that's the right model), and the other is a mini box (Xtreme Mints by Sweet Breath, 6oz size - about 1.5 x 2 inches) that contains my remote.

I haven't tried using one of those new round boxes the Altoids Sours come in, but I would imagine they'd work, also. But the rectangular boxes have the lids attached (hinged) so you don't have to worry about losing the top.

I started using these when I started using a Rio 500 (free when I joined Audible). I could fit the (ear hook) headphones and a spare battery in one Velamints or Altoids box.

As for keeping the cords wrapped up without tangling, check out this idea from my mother: Go to your local sewing/fabric shop. Buy some inexpensive thin static vinyl. Cut some strips about 1 inch wide and 4 or 5 inches long. Use the strip(s) to wrap your cords neatly. This stuff sticks to itself, and sticks to the above mentioned metal boxes, so you won't lose it when it's not wrapped around the cords.

Does this help any?

Waterfield has a nice bunch of iPod cases (super dooper) for both old and new iPods and they also have small cases that can hold associated gear, ie headphones, remote, etc. The Super dooper cases also have a flap that earbuds and other small headphones like Shure E2 fit into and I use the top flap for wire management to wrap the extra length of headphone cord so it doesn't dangle around and get in my way when I have the iPod on my belt. The included belt clip is the best I've ever used as well.

If you buy an iskin exo, it comes with an extra case for free: the maclear case.

There are 2 different maclear cases - one you can get just for the iPod, and the other which comes free with the exo. The first is a snug fitting case with holes for the headphones and hold button. The latter is a larger case that fits the iPod while in the exo.

You can use the iskin for protection and the maclear to store all the accessories that comes with the ipod.

You can see a picture in Lajo?s web:
