That Volkswagen Commercial Car-Charger/FM Transmitter?
What is the name of this fabu device (ie: Who makes it?) and is it available for consumption? You know, the one from that white VW bug commercial where if you buy the bug, they give you an iPod (probably a 10GB one and they hide the price somewhere into the car's price.) I like the idea of charging from the car charger (for those long trips) and FM transmitting (so I can lose the cable between the iPod and the tape deck.)
Thanks.
Consumed,

Umm, unfortunately, that charger does not have an FM transmitter built into it. It's the Belkin AutoKit (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/71501/wo/bS3Ff09vxi0H3qj8sOL5Fw0PHn4/1.3.0.5.10). The VW solution is nothing but a cassette adapter in conjunction with that car charger. The neat thing is that the Belkin charger has a built-in amp that allows you to leave your FM transmitter or cassette adapter plugged in when you remove your iPod.
Also check out this VW link: http://www.vw.com/podsunite/mini/flash.htm
You can find dozens of threads on this product on this site!
Hope this helps...

...the commercial makes it appear as though the young woman is sliding her iPod into this cradle-like thing that's connected to the lighter adapter. Then she hits the power button on her car radio and drives off into happiness.
The Belkin Auto Kit doesn't look the same. It's a cable thing with connectors hither and yon. I already rest my iPod in the cup-holder and connect it to the cassette adapter, so with the Belkin solution, I add having to connect the iPod to the charger to my practiced movements. That's what made the commercial solution so appealing, the ease with which the woman slid and drove.
Maybe it's a prototype for some upcoming device. Or maybe I just read it wrong. I like to think the former.
Think Different.

Too bad, but unfortunately this is not a matter of hoping. The VW kit consists of a Belkin AutoKit charger/amp, a BelkinTuneDok iPod holder, a Belkin cassette adapter, and a headphone to RCA cable. It is shipping now. You can look at the VW ad closely, and you'll see the AutoKit in the darkened background behind the iPod, and a cable that connects to the tape player.
I whole-heartedly agree with you that it would be nice to have such a combined device (charger & FM transmitter), but as of now, there is no such thing (as far as I know).
Sorry, mate.:(

there should be a new transpod (mount, charger, fm transmitter or tape adapter (depending on the model) all in one) for the 10/15/20, 30/40 ipods coming out sometime in the future...there was an ad in macworld for it but it did not offer a release date.

Two things:
1) Yay! It only makes sense.
2) Darn! I thought I was going to get rich making them for everyone.
As? es la vida.

...my dream device is called the TransPodFM. I see that a thread has been started on it here, but I didn't know what it was called otherwise I would've searched for it and read the thread.
I see that it's in this month's Macworld, but hasn't been posted on the everythingipod.com site just yet.
But thanks to everyone who tried to help. The answer to infection is nigh. (No wait, that's 28 Days Later.)
Infected.

Well, you don't need an FM transmitter really. An iTrip would do the job just fine.
