Connecting Remote W/ Other Headphones

with the 3rd gen 10GB can you use the remote with out the original headphones? does the remote have a connection itself, or is the remote/headphones an "an all in one" peice? can the be seperated and plug in the headphones of your choice? how long is the remote cable?

the remote has a regular 1/8" plug on it the the earbuds plug into, you can plug other stuff into it.plinko at 2007-11-15 16:06:04 >

just a regular plug. i have the sony ex71's, which are short, but come with an extension cable. i ditched the extension cable and just use the remote as the extension now. result: no long mess of cords as is the case when using the apple buds, and the remote is clipped near my shirt pocket.sirgolf82 at 2007-11-15 16:07:04 >
