Pin outs for 3rd gen ipod ??
Does anyone know where I can find a pin out description for the connector on the bottom of the 3rd gen iPod?
If you have internals of how the belkin auto adapter achieves their line out, that info would be great help.
I am trying to build a line out connector via the bottom connector. The belkin auto adapter is not a solution in this case I want to use the built in line out in the bottom (not the earphone to line out) of the unit with my home audio and don't wanna keep moving the dock.

does the line out of the belkin auto adapter still work when not plugged into the lighter socket?

A quick search of the forums and google, as I'm sure you've already tried, reveals nothing.
However, I must ask... Why buy a $40 Belkin autocharger to dissect it, instead of buying another $40 dock?! Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but you'd need to find *some* source for the proprietary iPod dock connector, yes?
BTW... I wouldn't know for sure, but you may not be able to dissect a firewire or USB iPod cable, as they are so thin, I doubt they carry the line-out signal... only power and data.

I'm trying to build something simple and cost effective. Me and my iPod are rarely separated :) and I want to build something very portable (aka a wire).
I don't own a belkin auto adapter or I would have a taken it apart already and I first found the dock too heavy. I must check how much a spare dock cost? (anynone knows if they can be had for cheap)

I think I'm half-way to what you want (and supply links to info that should be enough to get a motivated person there... or wait ~2 weeks so I can order a spare cable and do the work and post the results).
This one-cable audio/power thing is the biggest DUH out there.. and no one is making them... simply amazing.
