external battery pack for old models
500 charges isn't much and in a few years the battery on my second generation 20Gig will be dead. :(

This is what I would like to know also!There was a link to a home-made bat. pack but no commercially made ones.
**Does anyone know if the Belkin battery pack can somehow have the new connector cut off and an 'original' firewire socket spliced to it? Any reason why this can't be done?

There's this www.ipodbattery.com site, that has got batteries for 1-3g... but they unfortunately only ship within US... perhaps you know someone in the US who can order and send it to you?... - well this is for the internal battery, but as you fear that could go out of order...jojo
