Have you guys(m/f) noticed that EVERYBODY you know who has firewire but no ipod always has a "6 to 4" firewire cable that came with their firewire card/mainboard and nothing else?

Obviously this is just fine if you happen to have a DV camera which - pretty much without exception - has a 4pin female connector plug. Sadly, the ipod has a 6 pin female connector plug which leaves us pretty much out to dry. The only option to connect your ipod to some stranger's PC/Mac is to bring your own 6-6 cable that came with your ipod (or that you have bought seperately of course).

Am I the only one who thinks there should be a better solution for this? I positively hate having to bring my cable, its cumbersome, hard to pack, plus it's annoying to have to pull it out of your computer all the time.

What would be just perfect is a convertor that accepts a tiny 4pin connector on one side and ends in the standard 6pin connector that the ipod has. All you need to do then is just bring this connector and you can hook up anywhere! Problem is. I CANT FIND THIS. Surely someone must have made it? I realise that with this solution you will lose the option to run on the computers power, so the ipod will have to run on battery while being connected to the host computer but this is just fine, isnt it? Of course if you plan to watch a movie directly off the ipod the chances are it will die after one hour of continuous spinning but just copying the movie to the host computer's harddisk should be no problem at all!

If anyone can point me to a reseller that sells these convertors, please tell me! I know they exist for 6 -> 4 (it has a female 6pin and male 4pin) but we need the other way around.
