belkin auto kit 3.5mm jack?
can someone please explain to me how this kit works a little better than the belkin website did? im looking for a way to hook the ipod up so it charges and plays the music preferabally out of the bottom of the ipod through some sort of a line in adapter. if i got a charger for my car i would have one cord at the bottom and 1 at the top for my line out!!

The bottom of the Belkin adapter has a built in Line Out jack ... no need to use the headphone jack.
Think it only works if your head unit has an AUX input ... I just use the FM Tunecast and it seems to work good enough, but will definitely sound better if you use the AUX input.

does it sound better than just using the headphone jack? seems to me it would be the same because were still going through the 3.5mm jack. I heard that the dock connector sounds better than just using the headphone jack. I use my ipod primarily in my car and sound quality is of utmost importance.

I think the Belkin line-out sounds better than the sound coming out of the headphone jack. It's cleaner and I believe the volume control on the Belkin allows you to output more sound than the headphone jack allows. Not sure if this is true or not.

I haven't taken the time to hardwire the aux input on my head unit but I would have to believe that it would sound better because it is by-passing the iPod completely isn't it? ( just something I heard ) Doing so would give a cleaner line so there would be better sound.

I bought an Aux Line-in adaptor for my Jeep from Logjam.com.
The best sound is achieved from the Line-out from the dock. The only problem is that to use the dock in-car, I'll have to do a custom install. To get true Line-out quality the easier solution would be to have a Line-out cable that attaches to the iPod's dock connector. Does anyone know if one exists?
If you connect to a Aux Line-in on your car stereo through the 3.5mm headphone connector on top of the iPod there is a slight degradation of sound due to the fact that the sound has been processed by the iPod's volume circuitry.
The Belkin Auto Kit is OK except that the Line-out audio from the dock connector goes to the tiny amp in the cigarette lighter and is therefore no longer true Line-out quality, not to mention the mess of wires everywhere.

I purchased a Belkin auto kit. As many people in these forums have pointed out, the sound is much cleaner than withm the headphone jack. The problem I have with it is that I get a humming sound when the car engine is running that interferes with the overall sound quality. Anybody else experience that problem? And if so, is there a way to solve it?

I used the Belkin but because the line out on the cigarette adapter does not transmit audio unless plugged in, this presented problems for me. Whenever the unit was charging and playing, I got a buzzing sound through the speakers. WHen I used the headphone jack, however there was no buzzing (provided that the Belkin was not plugged in). Does anybody know if this is a ground look problem or what it is? Any ideas on how to fix it?

The "level control" on the Belkin is nice, because you can balance the volume between your radio and your iPod, so you don't blast your ears when switching back and forth.
The biggest problem is that the Line Out on the iPod doesn't make the Sound Check adjustments. (This is Apple's fault.)

Yes that would be a ground loop problem. Berklin explains it on their website. I don;t know how to fix it though.

Use a Ground Loop Isolator, like $10 at Radio Shack. That'll fix that buzzing sound, which is caused from having multiple gounds (cig lighter & car stereo).

The sound is great and the built in volume control gives more flexibility with your volume. I think the best thing about it is that when I switch the car off it pauses and then switches off automatically.

one other thing - whe using the line out there is only the one thing to unplug. To me this means i am more likely to remove it from my car, and therefore less chance of it getting stolen :)
