Best Cassette Adapter
I bought a Sony one with my iPod and found the sound to be better than I had expected. However, I am hearing things about different cassette adapters that use other means of NR (noise-reduction) technology such as the XtremeMac cassette adapter.
Which one is the best to get or are they all the same?

I have the Sony CPA-9C cassette adapter. It only works if I turn up the stereo in my Nissan Pathfinder to extraordinarily loud levels, and then, the sound quality is poor. When I turn back to regular radio, I seriously blow out my ears with such loud sound. So, are there any suggestions on other cassette adapters that might work a bit better?

Two things. Make sure that the cassette player is playing the correct A "side" of the cassette adapter. Try pushing the auto-reverse button on the cassette player or flip the cassette adapter over. I once was using a cassette adapter and the volume was really low. Turns out the cassette player was playing the B side so what I was hearing was the bleed over from the other side of the adapter.
Finally, turn up the volume on the iPod. And then adjust the cassette volume. Usually I have my iPod volume near 100%.

If you have a 3Gen iPod, the Belkin auto adaptor is a good thing. It has a booster with a volume control, which allows you to match the iPod volume to the radio volume. There may be a slight sound degradation with this, but who can tell, since you are using a cassette adaptor.

Gee, I musta got lucky. I bought my cassette adapter from Princess Auto, a clearout place full of surplus stuff and farm equipment. It works great, lots of volume with my Gen 3 iPOD. It cost 4 bucks, plus tax.

Thanks everyone for your tips. I'll try them out later tonight and let you know how it goes.
EDIT: The Auto-Reverse thing seems to fix the problem. Thanks once again!
