iPod Accessory Detection Scheme

In the latest news item about the Belkin Battery Pack, a Belkin representative made reference to "the way that Apple implemented their accessory detection scheme". I find it interesting that Apple has any such scheme at all, and to me it is proof positive that the new "dock" was in fact part of an integrated strategy for enabling a whole new generation of peripherals. So, to all the naysayers who said that the dock was not any kind of special technology - na na ner na na.
:p
Now the only question is, where are all the really COOL peripherals, like the Flash card reader I am dying for?!

Just give me AirPort-enabled docks for both home and car, and my life will be complete.
