iTrip and Battery Usage?
I've got an iTrip recently and have noticed a HUGE drop in battery life.
Before the iTrip I was getting 8-10 hours off a full charge, but now it's more like 4-5 hours.
What kind of results are you other iTrip owners experiencing?
I'm wondering if something's wrong with my 'pod or if the iTrip uses a lot of juice and this is normal.
Your replies are most appreciated.

Hi all,
Yeah, I'm having the exact same problem with mine-the original
10gb version with the latest software.
I don't have Alerts on or even the iPod backlight-and I still only manage about
4 hours.
I was hoping to get some advice here, though it looks like I'll have to
send an email to Griffin Tech.
Apart from that it works a treat.

I sent my query to Griffin Tech. and this is a test they suggest I try to determine wheather or not it's a faulty iTrip:
"Here is a good test to do to see if
the iTrip is actually drawing too much power. This will involve two days of
testing for you. The test is simple but like all tests you must keep the
variables limited and you must do the exact same test twice in exactly the
same way. Here it is. You cannot use Apples 8 hours of run time as a test
because that in no way relates to what your iPod is actually capable of
doing. Even on Apples own website they state that "your battery life will
vary". Plus they base that on you not touching the iPod at all during those
8 hours. We will do that same kind of test as it will realistically show us
what you iPod is capable of doing.
1) First charge your iPod for 5 hours. No more, no less.
2) Make sure you have 8 hours worth of MP3 files on the iPod
3) Make sure you have all the MP3 files in one folder or you have the ipod
set to play randomly and continuously.
4) Plug in your headphones and turn the volume up to 50% and then let the
music play for 8 hours...or until you run out or juice. Note the time it
takes to do this.
5) Now recharge the battery as before and then plug in the iTrip. Set the
volume at 50% as in the other test and then play as before.
6) Note the time it takes to get to the same battery level.
7) When doing both tests do not handle or adjust the iPod controls. Just
let it play.
8) Your play times should be within an hour or so of each other. I bet you
do not get 8 hours with either test. Apple says 5-6 hours is within specs.
Do these tests and then let me know. If the iTrip is causing the iPod to
drain 30% quicker (or even more) then let us know these results."
I conducted the tests and here are my results:
Test 1:
Headphones
Charged for 5 hours. Played at 50% volume and left alone.
Playtime=12 hours (thats right; twelve hours)
iTrip
Charged for 5 hours. Played at 50% volume and left alone.
Playtime=7 hours 20 min
Test 2:
Headphones
Charged for 5 hours. Played at 50% volume and left alone.
Playtime=11 hours
iTrip
Charged for 5 hours. Played at 50% volume and left alone.
Playtime=7 hours 10 min
These are genuine results, and as you can see the difference is huge.
As can be seen the iTrip is definetly drawing power (though these tests are not scientific!)
