NEW iTRIP INFO!!

I just talked to a guy from Griffin Technology and he told me they were ready to ship this Monday(7/21) until Apple told them to wait a few weeks. There is some info that Apple has to give Griffin to make the iTrip work the right way.
So he said the iTrip will not ship until the 2nd or 3rd week of August. Also, they are shipping in the order they received the orders from customers and stores....which means even if you think you placed your order the 1st day...an Apple store could have placed it before you and will get their order first. So yr likely to see the new iTrip in stores before you get your order.

Ah...crap.....I think I deserve my iTrip before the Apple Store does...:)

I hope I get my iTrip before August 15th because I am leaving towards the middle of the month.

You know, when I preordered mine, it was with the understanding from the web site that I would have it in time for my vacation which starts July 31st.

Now the web site says "shipping soon".. and you're telling me that means 2-3 weeks which would be too late for me to use it.

I was only getting the iTrip for my vacation to use in the rental car as my car stero has an AUX jack and I don't need the FM transmitter.

If the iTrip is going to be delayed that long, I am thinking I should cancel my order and see if I can find another one.. I hear the AudiaX is good...

This seems quite curious. If they are already build and ready to go, then the information from Apple won't be hardware-related that Griffin would need. And, you would also think that it wouldn't be something that would go in as instructions. So, does this sound like a new iPod software update? I wonder what else could be in it.

When I spoke with Griffin Technologies last week at the Macworld Expo, I had mentioned I had pre-ordered the new iTrip, they only stated that they would be available in "late summer."

Luckily I bought enough AA batteries to cover me so I can continue to use the Belkin Tunecast until my new iTrip arrives.

How well does the Tunecast work on LI?

i ordered one from amazon last week, and it shipped today. it said "griffin itrip fm transmitter for new ipods", and it was a new item. i guess they are sending me an old model and i'm going to have to send it back to them.

It works well around my home -- in and around 20 miles radius where I live. So it is great locally for the most part. The trouble I run into is where I commute to and from each day has radio stations on the same frequencies of the Tunecast which tend to overpower the Tunecast, and since it is limited to only four pre-select channels, there is nothing I can do to remedy it.

One of the reasons I am looking forward to the new iTrip is for the ability to select more FM channels as opposed to being limited to only four. Again, for the most part, the Tunecast works well for me except for when I am traveling to the office roughly 25-30 miles away from home when I encounter interference.

The other drawback to the Tunecast is that it uses AAA batteries. So I am constantly changing them every 10 to 14 days.

What changes exactly are they making to the ITrip to make it work better?

Griffin Technology has incredibly bad customer service. They did the same thing when the 1st iTrip came out. I ordered one and had the shipping date change about 3 times. In the meantime, the 3G iPods were released, and for me, the iTrip become obselete before I even received it. I pre-ordered the new iTrip the 1st day I was allowed to on the web site, and it is the same story all over again. I don't doubt if I never end up buying anything from the company. Griffin Technology needs to learn something about delivering what they say.

I dont think they're making any improvements, they're just making it able to work on gen 3 ipods.

It has nothing to do with Griffin having bad customer service or learning something about delivering what they say.
It has EVERYTHING to do with APPLE who suck the butt of an old re-tar-ded monkey pox victim right now.
Call Griffin up........they will talk to you about it.
They were ready to ship last week until APPLE told them not to.
Apple said they need to give Griffin some more info so the iTrip will work better. Either way, people are going to beeatch about it.

Heres a reply I got from them.. dated today:

"Hello,

It was scheduled for release on July 21 but we have had to delay that for a few more weeks. It will be released definitely by the end of Summer - probably sooner. We are 'working directly with' Apple on it now. We're sorry for the delay - but it WILL be worth it ;)

Here's the reply I just received from Griffin...

"We have experienced a delay with the iTrip for new iPods and are working to make sure everything is quality by mid to late August. We are hoping to improve on this date. We apologize for the inconvenience as we too want to get this shipping. We will keep you posted, JP"

Yep.. seems like I'm up the creek without an iTrip for my vacation..

I canceled my iTrip order. By then, I'll hopefully have a new car and I'll be able to buy a stereo system with line in or aux in ports. Save myself $45.
