Headphone Jack vs. Line Out Jack On Dock

Just curious if anyone knows if there is a difference between the line out jack on the ipod dock and the headphone jack on the top of the ipod?
Thanx in advance

Yes--I can't remember the exact specifics, but if you're linking to an external speaker source, the dock line out sounds MUCH better--I've tried it both ways. Another plus is you can turn the volume all the way down when using the dock line out--the volume is the same regardless--unlike the headphone jack (not sure how much difference this makes, just a minor note)...

Using the headphone port, the audio signal goes through an amplifier (which gives the audio volume, so you can hear it). But when you use line out, there is not amplifer to go through, which can distort the audio signal sometimes. The sound is cleaner through line out.

Ok, glad I came over hear to save this thread. The line-out completely bypasses the opamp which is in the iPod. The opamp in the iPod is complete utter crap. I hate to say this because I own an ipod. What you guys need to do is buy yourself some headphone amplifiers which hook up to the line-out. Its like listening to a CD on a full size player, im serious. You will be amazed how good your iPod sounds. BTW I hope none of you are using the stock earbuds:rolleyes:
Heres a link to headphone amplifiers: Amps (http://headroom.headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=3&subTopicID=27)
Heres a link to real headphones:Headphones (http://www.gradolabs.com/frameset_main.htm)
There are a lot of DIY people on Head-Fi (http://www.head-fi.org) which can build you a custom amp.
