iTrip Issues
Received the iTrip yesterday and after I set it up, I ran into these issues:
1. In all of the Washington DC Metro area, there are very few free frequencies on the FM dial. That being said, I picked 88.1, which had a very faint signal but after setup, it yielded the cleanest signal from my ipod, but the quality is poor and there isa constant hiss in the background. Question is this, shouldn't the ipod override weaker signals and output clean sound?
2. On top of the poor sound quality, the audio plays in mono, unless I turn up the ipod volume to 90%. That's good and all, but there is a lot of distortion. Does mono audio mean I'm not getting a good signal?
3. Moving vs Parked and City vs Rural. I get a much cleaner sound while moving and in rural areas. Is the iTrip adversely affected by its surroundings? Like tall buildings, other thing on a similar frequency?
I must admit I am very disappointed with the iTrip unless someone can enlighten me on any of the above issues. Considering returning it and getting the cassette adapator. There is the ugly wire to contend with, but at least I'm guaranteed a somewhat clean sound.

I also live in Washington, DC, and have been having success with the default setting. Sorry, I don't have everything in front of me so I don't remember what that is, but it has been working ok. I hope to have some time soon to go for a drive and go up and down the dial and see if there are any better freq.
I have also noticed that what works best in the car does not work as well in my office and things like that.

Day 2:
The biggest issue with me now is the mono sound. I have to crank the ipod volume up to 95% in order to get stereo playback. That is unacceptable.
Bogart, what is yours tuned to? Mine is best @ 88.1 and 87.9.
Once I get my hands on a cassette adaptor, I will post my head to head review.

I too have had problems, with not only the iTrip, but many of the wireless FM transmitters. All of them, including the iTrip give a low pitched hiss, of static in the background.
I would elaborate, but that pretty much sums up my arguement, I live in Iowa, cows, corn, and cookies bbq sauce. I live in the second largest city and there are 2 good radio stations that don't play only country music, or music from the 80's. So obviously there isn't much fight for radio air. FM channels 87-89 are clear, no reception, but still the iTrip makes static, and a unclear signal with no depth to the music

iTrip vs Tape Adapter Review:
The tape adapter, if you have a tape deck in your car (I have a blo$e deck), is 100x better than the iTrip. Used it this morning on the way to work, and it sounds great. Almost as good as CD in fact. The only drawback is that you have to deal with the wire, but I can deal with that since I no longer have to mess with my in-dash CD player. And at $12 or less, I'm sound as a pound baby!
My iTrip is going on ePay today.
