itrip on different radios

I am looking to buy an FM tuner so that I can play my iPod via my iTrip on my sound system.
I am looking on ebay for a releativley cheap one. But I want to know if it's worth saving money, as the iTrip is a bit unreliable.
The iTrip doesnt work very well on the analogue tuner that I tried, but on my new and expensive digital tuner it works very well. These are the only two tuners I have tested it on, so all I know is that I will be buying a digital tuner, but did the quality of the digital tuner I used help at all?
What are peoples experience of different FM tuners with the iTrip?
Is it the aerial that makes the difference, or does the quality and condition of the tuner affect it at all?

Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

# 1 Re: itrip on different radios
i would imagine that the better the quality of the tuner, the better the sound will be. but just having any digital tuner over analog will probably be good enough because it won't drift and will lock on the exact frequency.

the digital tuners in my car and home stereo certainly work and sound better than the analog clock radio in my bathroom [in terms of holding a clear signal, as well as overall sound of course]. and none of these components is anything special in terms of quality or cost.

you should just keep experimenting with other tuners that belong to friends, family, etc. until you are satisfied that you have something that meets your personal quality requirements and price range. then steal it when they're not looking. [or just go buy your own]
