iPod in my Accord

I finally got some pictures up of how I installed my iPod in my Accord. I love the setup and it is all hidden from view.

Scroll to the bottom to see how the iPod is actually hooked up.

Hey can you make a list of steps for me? I want to try something like that. I have no experience with car wiring, but am looking to get started with something simple.

I would really appreciate it. PS, i have the same car, but i have an aftermarket headunit with an aux adapter already coming out of the center console.

Thanks,

Austin

iamaustin, what kind of directions do you want? How to take apart the console? How to wire in the AC socket?

yep, how to take the console apart, wire in a new socket, and put everything back together :)

SPACEMAN,

If you've got a few spare minutes, I'd love instructions for the whole procedure (including parts needed). I've got a '95 Accord with a Sony CD Deck (no Aux/In, but changer control), so I assume I can set up something similar? I'm a complete novice to car wiring, but your operation was so well visually documented that you've got me salivating to do it myself.

Like I said, if it's not too much trouble for step-by-step instructions (to accompany your great photos), Accord-driving iPod-loving people everywhere will be able to share in your joy. If not, no problem.

Thanks,

KYRIAN

P.S. "Enter To Learn, Go Forth To Serve." Can you help a brother out?

I'd be happy to explain the procedure. I'll try to make a page about it when I get a spare hour. I'll try to keep you posted.

Great step-by-step instructions for many cars available here:
www.installdr.com too.

I used this site to deal with the car stereo portion of this same installation in my '99 Accord V6 coupe - (did not dismantle the center console however).

Hope this helps or at least gives SpacemanSp1ff a headstart!

I've recently installed an iPod in my 2003 Accord. Below are two quick pictures I took of the final installation.

The folks at Honda have put a lot of thought into the interior ergonomics. There is a second powerport inside the armrest, as well as access holes to run wires from the deep console up to where the iPod is in the pictures, and even out the front of it. It also has little plastic clips built-in that you can use to keep the wires in place.

Obviously it's not practical to keep it as-is due to access. I'm considering getting an iPod remote to set up a la SpacemanSp1ff, but since my iPod is an older model, I don't have a line-out which means I'll have cables coming out of both ends of my iPod remote. Still, it's better than what I have now.

I'm wondering if I put a mini-splitter into my headphone jack and plugged my stereo input into one and the untethered iPod remote into the other, would the sound be significantly degraded?

I think that the Ipod remote for your ipod needs to be directly plugged into the headphone jack because of the power ports on the collar.

Im interested in seeing if i can use the belkin's auto adapter to plug into the dock and using the dock's line out. Then maybe i can put the dock sideways in the center console and use it to keep the ipod from shifting around, maybe some foam under it. I dont know but both of you have given me some awsome ideas. And I think that with some instruction this project would be perfect for getting me into the car electronic world.

Space how are those instructions going?
iamaustin at 2007-11-15 16:22:04 >
# 17 Re: iPod in my Accord
I tried that, but the iPod's dock does not pass the audio signal through the connector in the back. It directs audio through the Line Out port. Reduces the Belkin into an expensive charger.

Thats fine with me, i payed 0 for 2 belkin chargers. Besides the belkin has problems feeding audio via line out to my reciever

Spaceman,

Thank you very, very much for your extremely clear and easy to follow directions. Your meticulous documentation is very helpful.

And props to SandMan for his helpful link, as well.

Happy installations, fellow Accordians.

How do i disconnect the battery in a v6 accord ex?
iamaustin at 2007-11-15 16:28:11 >
# 23 Re: iPod in my Accord
I can't be sure about the V6, but in my '99 EX (4-cylinder), I just used a wrench to loosen the battery terminal connections and then slipped them off. It took a bit of twisting to break the corrosion, etc.
