Those who have direct wired your ipods to your car stereo, please read

Can you please tell me or give me some ideas on what headunit I should buy? Mine doesn't have an auxillary or anything that I can use to direct connect it so I'm gonna buy a new head unit. Do any of you have any suggestions as to which one i should get? Thanks for any replies.

As long as you're getting a new headunit that would play CDs (I assume it would at least do that) and have a front AUX input, get one that also plays mp3 cds. It's not much more and gives you the capability to have a bunch of music on one cd for "around town" when you're just out for quick trips.

There are a few mp3 headunits with a front AUX input (for your iPod). I haven't looked into them in awhile, but at least AIWA has a unit. http://www.us.aiwa.com/default.asp?page=products&action=viewProduct&prod=405

Check out http://www.highwaymp3.com and check their messageboard if you're interested in mp3 headunits.

Any of the receivers that can control a cd changer will allow you to do a direct line. I just installed mine like that. Crutchfield has adapters that turn your changer port to rca ins and www.rcainputs.com has them as well. Anywhere from $20 up and your local car audio shop should carry them as well.

Pick out any deck that you like the looks. Remember, you get what you pay for. I like kenwood and alpine is always a favorite.

blaupunkt mp3000. plays mp3 cd's, has an RCA aux-input (in back, so no wires sticking out of the front) and sounds great.

$199 from crutchfield.

I have a Sony changer and head unit. I don't want to lose my changer, so I am using the Sony XA-300. It gives you two more AUX inputs and keeps the changer. It is about $100. You only need it with Sony stuff that uses Unilinck for control and power.

There's always the FM Modulator, which goes inline between the antenna and the stereo. Flip a switch, and one of the radio stations turns into an aux input. I'll be using this method.

Your best bet is to go with something from Sony, Alpine, Pioneer, or JVC. I have had nothing but luck with these four. Anything else like Aiwa, RCA, etc. I would stay away from. There are known problems with them and alot of customer dissatisfaction.
