Installed v. 9.0.174 and iPod Plug-in Stopped Working
I've browsed some of the posts here but could not find a definitive answer for what is wrong or how to fix it, so I apologize in advance if this post is redundant.
I have had MC9 for a few months now - love the program, paid the registration fee about 3 days after I started using it. I have a 10 GB WiniPod (2nd generation - not the new one) that has been working fine with the iPod plug in until just a few days ago. The previous version of MC9 that I had been using was 9.0.154 (I believe).
I received an email that the software was being officially released which prompted me to download the latest version (9.0.174). Everything worked great until I tried to sync my iPod. When I expand the Devices & Handhelds item and clicked on "G:" which is where my iPod is located, I get an error that simply says "h:" and soon afterwards, MC9 crashes.
I figured maybe I needed to get the latest iPod plugin (even though I thought it would automatically install with 9.0.174), so I downloaded that, installed it, and I'm still getting the same errors.
This is obviously pretty frustrating - you would think the offically released version would work better than the beta versions, but so far that is not the case for me.
Could someone please tell me what is wrong and how I fix it.
I figured maybe I need to do a restore (never tried doing that before). I never installed the software that came with the iPod - went right to MC9 - what version of the installer/updater works best with my iPod (kind of scared to get the latest and greatest in case it is designed for the new iPods)? I'm assuming it is available on apple's site.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Eric

First I would uninstall and reinstall MC9 and try it again.
If that fails, reformat your ipod for MC9 (you will lose all your data on your ipod if you do this).
I doubt you need to do a restore--at least I wouldn't start with that, I'd try the above first.:D

Dmt
In order to format the iPod for MC9, don't you need to select the "drive letter" under "Handhelds & Devices" and right click and go to format?
I can't do that...whenever I click on the drive letter, MC9 crashes.
I'm assuming that 9.0.174 w/ v. 9.0.19 of the iPod plugin is the right combo to use?
Also do I need to unistall the current version of MC9 first, or can I just reinstall over it? I would prefer to not have to back everything up. With a reinstall all of my settings, files, etc. are carried over.
BTW, I have v. 1.2.6 of the iPod software.
Thanks for the help.

Given the above I'd go with the "Restore" (1.2.6 is cool) and then run MC9 and click on the drive letter and "Format".
(...and make sure you have the VERY latest MC9 and plugin)

I'll give it a shot. I'm just worried that if I do a restore and then I can't upload to my iPod that it will basically be unusuable until I figure this out.
Aren't you supposed to periodically restore the iPod anyway to defrag it?
I will let you know how it turns out.

Yes, it's a good idea to restore every month or so (Adam converted me on this one).
I think you're going to need to reinstall MC9 though.
Just delete your Jriver file, then go back to the Jriver site and download. You can backup your library with one quick click; just make sure the backed up library is in a file other than your Jriver file, then when you reinstall MC9, you can restore your library and not lose anything...You can TRY reinstalling over the top, but I would be a little leer about that working (and anytime you download a new build of MC9 it's not a bad idea to backup your library BTW--I learned this one the hard way.).
And if this doesn't fix the problem, you can always use ephpod until it get's fixed--and it will get fixed!!

# 6 Re: Installed v. 9.0.174 and iPod Plug-in Stopped Working
So I tried the unistall/reinstall and still had the same problem when I tried to sync the iPod.
So I did a restore and voila everything works.
Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions.

Hey you never know. Maybe I needed to do the unistall/reinstall and then the restore or it wouldn't have worked.
Thanks for the responses.
# 9 Re: Installed v. 9.0.174 and iPod Plug-in Stopped Working
Coming late to this one guys, but just so you know, I read in the JRiver boards from Steve, that if you ever get the problem where MC9 crashes upon selecting the ipod, it means that the iPod's database is corrupted and needs to be rebuilt.
The only way to do this is to do a restore w/the Apple updater.
So, ya'll did the right thing... ;)

There is now a new version of MC9 available for download. Version 175 is out. I have it installed and it is working great. No problems..so far:D .

Forgot to mention that when I did the uninstall/reinstall, I installed 9.0.175.
