ID3 tag editers

I've just been looking around for a good, freeware tag editer that will allow me to get my mp3 files in some sort of order while my iPod is back with Apple for a fault investigation under warranty:(

The only one I've looked at so far is ID3-TagIT but I don't know if that handles Composer tags (judging by the screenshots not) and these are an essential. I normally use XPlay to edit composer tags after encoding where there are multiple composers on an album.

Cheers,

Steve

Good idea cadman, making the best of a bad situation there... You won't regret getting organised - especially if your tags were as messy as mine :-)

Ok. I've tried various freeware editors, and they're all... a bit rough. Nothing I've tried comes close to Tag&Rename; why not try it for 30 days? It's probably more than enough time to get all your major tagging done, and you might even think it's worth buying afterwards! I did. Give it a whirl?

Tag&Rename is nice but costs $, ID3-Tagit is nice and is free, and yes it does handle Composer, Orchestra, and a lot of other classical and song information such as original release year, and lyricist under Edit > Detailed Information.

Oh, and I tried Tag&Rename for the 30 days and didn't think it was worth the money for it. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice things that it does, but it's not a good deal for me. Just MOFWIW.

Thanks to you both.

I decided to go for Tag&Rename in the end, mostly because it allowed editing properties of multiple files in one operation.

On the other hand, the ability to hangle composer tags is pretty useless if Ephpod is used to transfer the encoded files - that seems to be handled better in XPlay.

What's the problem with ephpod and composers? I use composer field (for DJ names) and was planning to use ephpod when my ipod arrives tomorrow.

Basically any composer tags on the mp3 files don't get transferred to the iPod with Ephpod.

They do with XPlay and this was my main reason for using this package over Ephpod. In my case this was due to having a fair number of classical albums - it probably would not have been an issue for any of my other musical styles.

TagScan is the absolute best freeware ID3 tagger / batcher on the planet.

Disregard the Russian; it's in English when you d/l. Thank me later.

Does anyone know of a pick of tag software that will automatically find year data for albums and insert accordingly?
