cannot create ipod control, please help
i have owned a 5gb ipod for a while now. i ordered it off ebay for pc's, however i was shipped a mac formatted pod. it didn't matter at the time because i had access to a mac, but i don't any longer. i have tried to convert my pod to a winipod but am having a lot of trouble. i have done macopener, and i installed ephpod. but on the setup i can't get passed the directory creator. it says, "cannot create ipod control." any suggestions would be awesome. oh yeah, and the computer recognizes that the ipod is plugged in as the "hardware removal" icon is present as is ipod manager.

format the ipod through the steps in the manual. Then reboot it and clean it out under the settings option to "return to original" or whatever that option is. Then it should be just like you were getting it out of the box.
Oh crap, i just realized that you said you have a 5gb ipod which is the older generation ipod's. Im afraid these can't be switched between apple and windows computers. I dont really know too much about the older ipod's as i have a 3g, but i remember reading somewhere that the second genderation ipod's could be used on both platforms. Hope this helped.

i don't have the manual, i bought it used and it didn't come with one. i used software to convert it to a winipod and used macopener to reformat it. please continue to offer assisistance if a at all possible. i am really bumbed i have no music.

OK, now I see what you're trying to do (see your other post).
Here are the steps you need to follow:
1. Run the 1.2.6 Updater, click on the Restore button. This will convert your iPod to a WiPod.
2. Uninstall MacOpener, you don't need it.
3. Install the Windows-only version of ephpod, not the one that has MacOpener included
4. Launch ephpod. Ignore any MacOpener messages you get. If you get the "can't create ipod_control" error again, close ephpod and open up My Computer. In there will be the iPod drive letter. Open it, you'll find a hidden folder called "ipod_control". Delete it. If you don't see it, make sure you have viewing of hidden files enabled.
5. Fire up ephpod, it'll be able to create the directory now.
If the iPod doesn't show up in My Computer it means that firewire disk mode isn't enabled. Make sure that the following programs are uninstalled:
iPod Manager (you shouldn't have this as it's only for 3rd gen iPods)
The MMJB iPod Plugin
