MP3 tag editor question

I ripped a number of cds and now want to change the cd to a different folder. Is there a MP3 tag editor that will allow me to change the folder without having to rerip the cd to another folder??

example: I want to store all beatles cds to The Beatles folder...but i ripped a couple of cds to Beatles folder...is there a way to change the mp3s from Beatles to The Beatles folder without reripping the cd???

please indicate how to do this and what editors can do this if at all....thanks

Hi... I'm not totally sure what you're trying to do. If you want to put all your Beatles MP3s in a Beatles folder, you can do that without a tag editor; just create the Beatles folder, select all your Beatles MP3 files and drag them in. Sorted.

Is that what you were aiming for?

let me clarify:

if i rip my cds to a folder, lets say "Beatles" folder, and then maually move them to "The Beatles" folder, EPhpod will continue to see "Beatles" as the artist regardles as to whether I manually move them to "The Beatles" folder. Now I tried in one tag editor to change the artist name after I moved them manually to "The Beatles" and they would not play in the windows media player.

Try it for yourself...if you rip to one folder, apparently the only way to change folders is to re rip the cd changing the artist name which will put it in a different folder

If there would be a simpler, quicker way than having to rerip the entire cd it would be better....thanks

Ah, now I understand.

Ephpod (and the iPod) ignores folder names, and looks only at the ID3 tags, so moving the files around on your hard drive makes no difference to their appearance on the iPod.

It sounds like the tag editor you tried is quite dodgy... If I were you, I'd first try to change one file's tags in Winamp to make sure retagging solves your problem. Winamp's tagging features are very simple, very reliable. Note: change the ID3v2 tag only, then hit the "Copy to ID3v1" button at the bottom and Winamp will mirror it. Saves time.

If you have a large number of tags to do, I'd recommend Tag&Rename. Plenty of 'loungers find ID3TagIt excellent also...

Good luck!

Hmmm.. I'll take a crack at this one even though I'm not completely sure I understand your dilemma.

Where you store your MP3s on your computer or the name of the folders you store them in have nothing to do with what shows up on your ipod. Thus, if you change the name of a folder from Beatles to The Beatles it won't change anything on your ipod. What you need to do is change the tag for each mp3 file from Beatles to The Beatles.

As for Ephpod, you said you moved items from Beatles to The Beatles folder and were surprised that they didn't change in Ephpod. Ephod does not display what's on your computer, it displays what's on your ipod. So, moving files from one folder to another will have no effect on what Ephpod displays. And, as stated above, folder names don't mean anything anyway, it's the tags that are important.

So, here's what you need to do. Using a tag editor, change the Artist Name tags on all your Beatle mps from Beatles to The Beatles. I believe if you were to then sync, you would have both Beatles and The Beatles mp3s on your ipod so when you plug in your Ipod and open Ephpod, delete your Beatle files and then add the revised Mp3s (with "The Beatles" tag). Your mp3s will then show up on your ipod as The Beatles.

Hope that helps.

LOL... A double helping of iPodlounge goodness for you there, ipod22. You're very welcome :-)

You need to use the "multi file tag editor" in T&R... Hit F3 or click the tab at the top to get it.

1) Type in your desired contents for the Artist field;
2) Select the songs you want to alter by ticking their boxes in the list;
3) Hit Save Tags to make the changes.

Good luck!

Sam.
