New user lost

I just purchased a 30gb new ipod. I am having a hard time getting songs into ephpod. This is what I am doing. I load a CD, copy it into the windows media player library. Then I open My Music, select all of the songs and try to drag and drop them into the ephpod song view. Nothing happens. I have tried the Add Songs bar to open the file, without success. After copying a CD to the wmp library, do I need a further step to convert it into an mp3 or other file compatible with transfer to ephpod and subsequently to my ipod?

fcsurgeon, welcome to ipodlounge :)

exactly. you need to rip and then encode the cd into mp3 format. for this i recommend eac/lame. do a search for eac/lame and you?ll get all the info you?ll need to be an encoding pro.

 :D
