Folder Lookup?

I'd be surprised if MC9 didn't have the option of looking in specified folders (Like My Music) and automatically updating the libray at startup. I haven't found as of yet how to do this though. Does anyone here know if this is possible and how to do it if so?

What you're talking about are "Watch Folders". And no, MC9 doesn't support this. From what I understand it takes a performance hit as the application has to be running all the time to be checking to see if new files have been added to the Watch Folder directory(ies).

As a rule, I just make sure that as I download media etc. That I just click on the import Media button. It scans the directory I've set to search.

As far a ripping, well, that will automatically get added as long as you rip from w/in MC9 (which you want to do anyway).

Thanks a lot. My main issue is I've imported all my songs, but now I'm thinking about changing the folders around. I'd prefer not to have to manually delete and reimport the files. Is there a more efficient way of doing this? Thanks again.

OK, this is very simple from w/in MC9. As a rule, I don't move songs at all outside of MC9. It does it all for you and will enure that paths to songs don't get messed up in MC9's database.

1. Select the songs you want to move/change the folders on. Right click and select "Properties". The properties window will show up on the left (for version 9.1) or the right (for version 9.0).

2. Clean up the tags on the songs you just imported--fix the Artist, Album, track# and Track Name tags so they are like you want them

3. Hightlight all the songs, right-click select Library Tools>Rename Files from Properties.

4. In the dialog box that comes up, enter your Base Directory (your My Music folder), then select the Directory Rule you want (like "Artist\Album"), then select the naming convention you want (like "Artist - Album - Track# - Track Name.mp3"). Make sure you check both the Directory Rule and File Name rule checkboxes and click OK. You can either make your own naming conventions or do what I do, just select from the available presets.

MC9 will rename (effectively moving) the files to the new structure you selected. If any old empty folders are left, it will even ask you if you'd like the old folders deleted.

Hope that helps.

It's always best to import tunes, tag them right and then "move" them from w/in MC9 this way.

Thanks a bunch. That was VERY hepful. I've been using xplay until recently and just started using MC9 the other day. The smartlists are awesome. Once I get all my genre info together it's going to be incredible. Thanks again.

No problem. Get your Ratings done too. Those make smartlists even better. :D

Soon the playcounts from the iPod and the Rating changes on the iPod will be updated during each sync. So that gives even more fun to smartlists.
