installed ephpod - that killed mmjb

Hello, long saga here:

I had a 10 gb new generation iPod running with mmjb just fine. I wanted to reformat my hard disk, which I did, blowing away my music collection. So, I installed ephPod to download the songs from my iPod to disk. Fine so far.

However, once I installed ephPod, none of the origional iPod software, the updater, iPod manager or mmjb, would recognise the iPod. ephPod still worked though.

Question 1: does ephPod conflict with the origional software in some way? I did try to uninstall both sets of software and reinstall mmjb, to no avail.

Ok, now, I bought a 30gb iPod to replace my 10gb which was getting full. So I uninstalled all the ipod software, mmjb, updater, manager and ephod, and then installed all the software that came with the new iPod. No go.

So then I installed ephPod. It prompts me to create the directory structure on the iPod, then gives me the error something like - can't create iPod_controll. Also, when navigating to the ipod disk in explorer, I get the message that the disk has not been formatted.

Question 2: Do I have to format the disk in explorer to get ephPod to work?

Thanks,
Sam

I've never seen ephpod conflict w/MMJB or any of the iPod software. That just doesn't make sense to me. But I think I know why they're not working w/your new iPod.

All new iPods, actually come as MiPods, so they are formatted as HFS+. The setup process involves converting them to WiPods (FAT32).

Reinstall the iPod Software.

Connect the iPod and launch the Updater (Start>Programs>iPod>Updater). Click on the Restore button. That will convert your iPod for windows use.

Then everything should work.

If you get the "Can't Create ipod_control" error w/ephpod, open up the iPod in My Computer, then delete the ipod_control folder. It's a hidden folder, so make sure you have viewing of hidden folders enabled.

Then fire up ephpod, it'll be able to make the directory.

Updater is not working. The restore button is grey-ed out.

OK, try this...

Connect the iPod. Open up My Computer. You should see the iPod as a new drive there. Right-click it and select format. Do a full format.

Then run the Updater. The "Restore" button should not be greyed out anymore.
