Can I undo mp3gain done via ephpod ?

I have used the mp3gain capability with ephpod and was wondering if there is any way to undo this or are all of my tracks now permanently mp3gained ?

Well, I did something similar. I mp3gained all my tracks via Ephpod, which set them to 89db, the default for mp3gain which is not changeable via Ephpod. This was too soft, so I went onto my iPod hard drive, made all folders visible, then downloaded the real mp3gain program, and loaded in EVERY mp3 from the ipod_controls folder on the ipod hard drive (which was hidden before).

Then I set the gain to 94db, and applied it to every mp3 on my iPod. It worked great.

mp3gain reported a lot of clipping, but this really is BS. I haven't heard one clip yet - I think that as long as you keep mp3 gain to less than 98db or so, the clipping it reports just isn't hearable, except maybe to dogs.

Good luck.

This is useful for me to know if I want to boost them up from 89 to 94 but I'm thinking that I may not bother with mp3gain at all, in which case I need to know if I can quickly remove the mp3gain from the files that ephpod has already operated on. Will wiping the ipod using that function in ephpod and then re-uploading without using mp3gain do this ?

Of course, if you wipe out the files on the iPod that have been mp3gained (otherwise known as "normalized") and reupload the original files, they won' tbe normalized.

I'm not sure if you can undo the mp3gain you've applied to the files on your ipod. You might want to try using the real mp3gain program, opening the ipod_control folder with it, and undoing the gain on the files.

No idea if this works, but it's worth a try.

But why WOULDN'T you want all your files normalized? You like having them all at different volumes?

Anyway, good luck.
