Are they just totally disappearing? Or are they shown on the iPod view in ephpod but don't show up in the iPod?
# 2 Re: Synching and losing playlists
not on ipod or on ephpod....only the ones that ephpod created from the genres....any clue on how to keep playlists from disappearing...some of these take considerable work...thanks

Do you have a new iPod and/or ephod version 2.70? If you have either of these, there seems to be a bug that's causing this to happen. I do not know of how to fix this yet. I do know that you are not the only one that is having this problem.

Ephpod is therefore worthless if this is the case.
Any recommendations as to other software to load, manage, and create playlists on ipod??

Sorry guys but I have to do the "plug". Use MC9. You'll thank me later. This software blows the rest out of the water. You can do everything from ripping cd's to watching tv. Oh yes I said watching tv. Download the trial version and test it out. It's definitely worth it.

I've experienced that same problem myself occasionally. Normally what I do is just re-connect to ephpod, go to my playlists, look at one or two of them and then close out ephpod and they are back. I admit that this is annoying, but it works for me.

I have noticed that I have to do that every once in a while too.

I have to ditto the plug for MC9. If you're interested in playlists and managing them it's the best out there.
You won't have to create manual playlists anymore (although you still can), you can use smartlists that are criteria based playlists. Changes the way you listen to your iPod..at least it did for me.

The only problem with MC9 is it costs $$. I know its worth it and that I'll enjoy the software, but the thing is I just plain can't spend the money. After buying my new iPod and EX71 headphones, I just can't afford it, no matter how "worth it" it is. Is there maybe a free older version of MC?

# 11 Re: Synching and losing playlists
I've just checked my ephpod config. and it is unchecked. I have yet to experience this on my new ipod, 20gb windows, but I did several times with my 10gb. So I don't know if that is the answer, since that box has never been checked in my settings.
# 12 Re: Synching and losing playlists
Unchecking the box worked for me. The playlists work great now. I am using a new 15GB iPod with version 2.60f of EphPod.
# 13 Re: Synching and losing playlists
I have experienced this problem with my 20GB iPod, too, using ephpod 2.57 and 2.60f (the current version).
I found that the only way to avoid this is to:
1) Disable "Always save changes to iPod on exit" option
2) When ready to exit ephpod, MANUALLY click "save changes" button
3) WAIT for ipod's hard disk to spin down before doing anything else.
4) When exiting ephpod, it will ask you if you want to save all changes. Select NO.
5) Make sure ipod's hard disk has spun down completely before Unmounting it from the taskbar icon
That should work.
Check http://bugs.ephpod.com/show_bug.cgi?id=256 for more information on the status of this bug.
# 14 Re: Synching and losing playlists
OK, now I'm mad. I made like 7 new custom playlists with about 15 songs a piece, and so I figured because the playlists were fixed now, I'd just make them and sync them to my iPod and everything would be good. WRONG! Out of the 7 playlists I made, I lost 5 of them. This just insn't going to work for me, I am losing way too much time here and I am going to stop using EphPod until they come out with a fix for this problem. Until then, MMJB looks good to me, or possibly I will make my playlists in WinAmp, but one thing's for sure: no more EphPod! (it's too bad, because other than the playlists, EphPod is great!)
