How to Use EphPod with USB

Here is a little guide how to use it.
You must have a Windows iPod and
a USB dock connector to use this
guide. Do not delete MusicMatch
You need it for to establish connections
Here is the guide
--(this guide was written on XP)--
----------------
1. Connect your AC Adaptor to an outlet
and the USB cable to your computer.
2. Put the iPod on the dock. MusicMatch
should open up. Upon it loading up the
iPod shows up as a drive in My Computer.
3. Open up EphPod and it will start the
wizard. Choose the drive that iPod is
on Step 2. Make sure MusicMatch is still
open, this is running the connection
between the iPod and your computer.
If MusicMatch is not open right now you
will not see the iPod as a drive letter.
4. Go through the rest of your wizard.
5. Now everytime you connect your
iPod to the computer. You keep
MusicMatch open and open up
EphPod. Now you will have the
advantages of the USB dock connector
and the advantages of EphPod.
Enjoy your Windows-USB-EphPod-iPod.

Liquid:

Actually, I'd like to clarify something for your guide.

You do not need music match installed for ephpod to work either w/USB or firewire.

Here's the deal. The iPod Plugin for MMJB actually disables the drive that Windows assigns automatically. It's a nasty "feature" of MMJB. You can prevent this from happening by either "Enabling Firewire Disk Mode" in the Portable Devices>Options>iPod menu or by uninstalling the MMJB iPod Plugin.

On Gen3 iPods, this option to enable firewire disk mode is also in the iPod Manager software. You need to make sure to check that here as well.

The best environment to run ephpod in (or MC9) is to uninstall the "iPod Software" (as listed Add/Remove Programs) and the "MMJB iPod Plugin" (as listed in Add/Remove programs)

This will ensure that Windo'ws assignment of a drive letter is not interfered with.

wow thanks ashawley. You are truly the iPod Windows master. Mind if I use some of your pointers in a guide I am making? I would of course give you credit.
