Help - LAME wont work

I downloaded and extracted LAME, but whenever I run the program, a screen flashes and then closes immediately. I cannot seem to open the program for more than a split second. I am new to LAME, so I have no idea what is going on. Can anyone help.
If it makes a difference - I have EAC working

LAME can not be double-clicked and run. It doesnt work that way. Run EAC, and in the compression section, make sure you point it to the correct .exe, and select LAME MP3 Encoder from the drop-down menu.

Under additional parameters enter exactley as follows:

"--alt-preset standard"

** no quotes of course - this will encode at pretty sweet quality; Variable Bitrate Mp3 will be the result. **
