Syncing with Playlists only

I have a 10gig "classic" iPod, running winXP, ephPod 2.70a. My collection of music is large enough I decided to follow the advice in the help file or so I thought/think.

I set up a separate directory with just playlists that I created using Winamp 3 (saved out as m3u files). I checked the box in the ephPod config to sync playlists. Yet when I sync nothing happens!

If I add the playlist manually to ephPod the file sare transferred and all apears fine - until the next sync. I also checked the boxes to remove files no longer being used. I guess as proof it doesn't see the playlist it removes all files.

One possible reason - I have moved "My Docs" which contains the playlist form C: to another directory. I doubt this is the problem, but I mention it anyway... Thanks!

I think you've run into the playlist bug in ephpod. When I used to use it back at version 2.58 I know this was a bug. You'd sync and playlists wouldn't get added. If you manually added them, it would work.

Best bet is to just do Add Playlists and select the entire directory.

Pmodo, more information about that last thing you mentioned about changing the directory. Did you also change the sync configuration settings to reflect that move? I think I may be having a similar problem to you check my post:

My playlist is also not in the default directory. I can't check this now, but will move it and see if it starts working later tonight.

Yeah, well then I think thats exactly the same problem I am having, you can check out my other post on this topic (the link is in my post 2 posts up). I played around with it and it seems like a bug, it only worked if I had my playlists in the default 'My Music' directory...

I was getting ready to do a little review on this and I see that I am not alone.
I usually have to sync twice to get all of the playlists on there correctly as I am still new with all of this and this gadget seems to not receive as much tinkering time between all of the others.
I knew that it must be an Ephpod bug and it just takes an extra sync or saving of changes to get all of the playlists to show up on the device.
I am still doing version 2.58 is it any better with 2.70? Or is there a reason to go to 2.70?

mulgar,
Finally got some time try out moving the playlists. No dice. They still won't sync. BUT I moved my "My docs" to a different drive and I have a feeling that may be the problem. Ephpod may only work in the default My Music in its default location...

amc1,
Sorry but I'm not sure what to tell you. I went with 2.70 due to support for Audible files.

I had this problem last night.

I found that in general a WinAmp playlist would not automatically synch, but a Tag&Rename generated one would.

The difference seemed to be that the filenames in the T&R playlists began "..\", whereas the WinAmp generated ones were just "\".

Even stranger, I loaded a T&R playlist into WinAmp, shuffled the tracks, and resaved it from WinAmp. The "..\" format was preserved, and the list synched fine!

Strange.

Cheers
Alastair.
