Retaining Ephpod tags when copying to HDD
I've done a bunch of searches, but I can't seem to find an answer and would appreciate any help.
I have a large collection of Mp3s, many of which are incorrectly tagged. Others are tagged properly, but I've since changed their Genre or other category in Ephpod.
When I copy a song from Ephpod to my hdd, then import it back in, it loses all of my changes. What I'd like to do is be able to swap out files from Ephpod to make room, then import them back into my Ipod without having to redo all of the changes.
Is there an easy way to write ID3 tags for Ephpod-transferred files based on their Ephpod settings, or is there a configuration I could use in Ephpod which ignores their bad ID3 tags and imports via the outputted files' naming convention?
Thanks in advance,
Neil

There is a setting in ephpod to enable it to save id3 tags when you edit the values in the iPod's database. But it never worked for me when I used to use ephpod and I believe it's still a problem.
Your best bet is to copy your tunes to our PC. Edit the tags w/a good tag editor and then copy them back to the ipod. You'll need to delete the iPod version of the songs before you reupload them because ephpod doesn't reload tag data--since the file would be the same, it would just skip it.
So, the rule is:
Copy off of iPod
Delete song from iPod
Fix tags
Re upload

You can set a path pattern, in EphPod, for music you transfer to your computer. For example so songs end up here:
<Directory Specified>/<Artist>/<Album>/<Track Number> - <Track Title>.mp3
You can then use the "id3 tags from file name" feature in any advanced tag editor to set tags based on path/file name. My choice of editor would be ID3-TagIt.

Thanks for the replies. After posting I discovered the checkbox that sets changes made via hotkeys in the ID3 tag ... tested copying file off Ipod, then deleting file from Ipod, and importing back in ... seems to work perfectly, save for Ephpod not reading the Genre column.
Which is fine and good for files I transfer to the Ipod now, but doesn't really help me with the 14gb I've already got on there. I guess I'll just have to do things the long way. :)
Thanks for the help.
