How to avoid the 1 sec. gap between songs

I listen to a lot of live music and am trying to figure out how to avoid the somewhat annoying 1-2 second gap (silence) in between tracks on the ipod. How is this done i MC9? thanks

This is, I believe, a limitation of the iPod itself, not MC9. I have experienced the same gap with iTunes, XPlay, and EphPod.

Apple may, at some time, choose to fix this gap with a firmware update, but hasn't thus far done so.

It's actually not a limitation of the iPod. It's a limitation of mp3s themselves. Check out this informative link (http://www.geocities.com/altbinariessoundsmusicclassical/mp3gaps.html) on the cause of the MP3 gap and solutions around it. Well, I found it informative. :D

Basically all you can do is rip/record your songs into one large mp3.

And Kurt's indirectly (or maybe that's directly) right too. Since the iPod plays MP3s and there is a cache problem to be solved. Ah, ferget it. We're both right! :D :D

All:

One simple solution is the unix utility cat. And I seem to vaguely remember that in windows you can copy two source files to the same destination file, or maybe there is some more direct equivalent to cat.

I may be a limitation of mp3's but it is possible to update the firmware on some players to get rid of the gap. My first mp3 player was the RioVolt CD mp3 player, and Diamond MM spent a good 3 or 4 months working on getting rid of the gap, and issued several firmware revisions making the gap smaller until the final one that got rid of it entirely. So it is possible on some players, but may or may not be on an iPod.

A meta-suggestion: couldn't we all try to use question-marks in topics, if they are questions? "How to avoid the 1 sec. gap between songs" makes me expect a fix, not a question.

It happens a lot, I find, and I'm disappointed every time. :D

While I applaud your efforts at getting folks to use punctuation to better communicate, I sadly fear that in the world we live in today, your suggestion while noble is doomed to failure.

Heck, we can't even get most posters to spell words out or capitalize the first word in a sentence. And you want punctuation?!! My god man, what are you thinking. :D ;)

When I was in grade and middle school, we took these classes called English, both grammar and literature. Alas, methinks it is a dying art . . . :(

Leaving out questionmarks is punishable by having to use MMJB with the flashiest skin on a computer from 1996..?
