Artist Listing Problem

Alright, i'm new to this but a little help before I start loading up my Ipod with songs would be great. Today I put about 150 songs on my new 10 GB Gen III Ipod. When i went into artists to find a song to listen to, it would list the same artist once, twice, and on one band up to 4 times. Why is it doing this and what can I do to fix it so they will all be together? Thanks! I am using Musicmatch.

Because MMJB can't properly label tags. MMJB had a bug where it would delete the last character in some tags, so to fix it Musicmatch added a space, so even though you may think you are properly label a tag there is the possiblity that there is actually a space at the end of it. So you may enter The Beatles but MMJB will store it as The Beatles_. So, you could have The Beatle, The Beatles, and The Beatles_ and whatever else MMJB can come up with.

Can id3-tagit, a free tag editor, now before you pull your hair out.

Get ephpod. It has a tagging tool that is great for quick fixes. Mass tagging is also supported.

EphPod is great, but it's not really a tagging tool, and Juicebuddy's problem requires something more that a quick fix. I really think he has a lot of problems with his tags, and he will need to retag all of the mp3's just to be safe, as that would be quicker than looking at each tag to find the error, and since it's only about fifteen cd's it should take a lot of time.

you can grab all the beatles, and do a mass mp3 tag fix.

very easy for artist, album, genre fixes.

of course its not a tagging tool. If he ripped it using EAC in the first place, off a legit retail disc, this wouldnt have happened.

But he used MMJB which means all or part of the mp3's are tagged improperly, so it would be easier to do it with a tagging tool.

But whatever works best for you, personally I just don't trust ephPOD to tag.

Thanks for the replys, i downloaded Ephpod. I have been putting my songs on the ipod through musicmatch, then going into Ephpod and fixing the songs that look wrong. Then i turn on the ipod and it looks all clear. But i still am not sure how to do mass tagging in ephod.
