"clipping" question in mp3gain

i'm using mp3gain and i'm new to this mp3 thing. can someone please explain to me what "clipping" in general means?
also in mp3gain, there is "clipping" and there is "clip track" and "clip album" columns, can someone tell me what they all refer to?
