make sure all the necessary files are installed in the EAC directory before you try to use it. The necessary files will be different depending on options concerning your drive type and your operating system.

Is it a server error? You can fix this by going into EAC>freedb/database options and choosing a different freedb server--just keep picking until you find one that works.

you think it's because i also have cdex and it's maybe "stealing" my cd away from eac? i'm not sure if that can be done or if it makes sense, i'm a novice.

Actually perhaps the poster means somehting totally different.

Poster, if you mean EAC SEES that there is a cd in there (it lists track1, track 2, track 3) but doesnt tell you the track, artist, albumnames, then yes you need to set up the freedb settings correctly

However if you put a CD in and it does nothing, you could try something different IF you are in windows 2000, 2003, NT or XP:

1/ Find a program called 'ForceASPI', version 1.7 and install that.
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm has it, it seems.

2/ in EAC -> EAC Options -> Interface select 'external ASPI interface'.

Works for me every time.

update your ASPI layer.

re-download/install EAC, could be corrupted. It wouldnt hurt taking Cdex off - EAC is all you need :)
