"do not disconnect" message
When the ipod is mounted at all times i get a flashing "do not disconnect" message. Is this normal/expected behaviour, I'm only using the manager software and ephpod.
A little annoying as I've just got the ipod and its the most amazing bit of kit I've ever owned. Just this one minor glitch.
Sorry if this has been discussed before but I can't find a clear answer.
I've a new gen 3 ipod, win xp pro, firewire connection.
Any fixes ?

It is be design. It's telling you not to disconnect the iPod until you unmount it.
To unmount it, you close out of your uploading program (ephpod, mmjb, MC9, Xplay) and click the Safely Remove Hardware icon.
It looks like this:

ok i getya !
but one moer thing, this implies that I don't need to use the ipod manager software (pic of the ipod that resides in the tray). Is this correct can I do without it. I know it has an "unmount" option too ?
thanks

yes you can do without the ipod manager. however ipod manager has a nice feature: you can "mount" the ipod when the ipod is connected but not mounted by simply clicking a button without ipod manager. otherwise, you'd have to unconnect the cable, then reconnect it to mount it.

Make sure you close ephpod, and save all changes before you unmount.

i get this message when the ipod is in the computer, and whilst it is on but still have it showing when i have turned the computer off and the ipod is still sitting in the docking station.
is it safe to remove it?
Cheers

You should always unmount the iPod before shutting down the PC (IMO). Never know if a power surge etc. could effect something.
Just click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in your systray. Then shut down.

why is it important to close ephpod before unmounting it?
# 9 Re: "do not disconnect" message
because Ephpod has files open on the iPod itself, primarily the main iPod db files. If it gets hosed, you'll probably have to reformat and reload your iPod.

# 11 Re: "do not disconnect" message
I just got my 3rd gen iPod (and sold my 2nd gen to my yonger brother), but after having transferred a few songs to get things going, I quit Ephpod, saved my changes, but now the little icon for unmounting my iPod always says "The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later." And no matter how long I wait, it gives me that warning...what gives? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Edit: Never mind, now all of a sudden I can dismount my iPod and everything works great!! I'm lovin the new 3rd gen iPod so far!!!!

If you click the Enable Disk Mode on, the message will show. Once you turn it off, the message will disappear.
