Need help finding mp3 tagging software

I recently got my ipod working again and am now searching for the software i used to use for mass tagging. Im not exact on the name but I remember the name was Speed something. maybe speed tagger or speed id3 tagger, possibly super tagger. Its really simple to use and has a VERY simple interface if anyone has this or can please point me to it i would be very grateful. Tryed some alternatives but didnt really like them. Thanx

Probably everybody has their tagging and renaming needs and finds some program that does half of the work for them.

But wouldn't it be great if there were taggers that do ALL or 95% of the work?

Now what would we need for that.

The main issue to get proper values to put into filenames and tags. The way I see it you need some 'smart' logic to do this that compares what info it has. For example, the filename can contain a lot of information:

02-marillion-script_for_a_jesters_tear-the_web.mp3

or hardly anything

track02.mp3

or seemingly more:

marillion-track02-www.freemusic.com.mp3

The way to go about this is to do checks like what other files are inside a dir, and are there similar, but not too-similar files. More files named 'marillion...' but variation in the number (01..02...03) are clear clues. Even better.. some parts the same, some parts differ.. we have a track name!

Next, obviously check tags. if there's something in there then do some fuzzy matching, see if we can determine something. If other than capitalization differences and perhaps some extra chars the id3 tags match (parts of) the filenames then we're one step further in determining the validity of the values we've found.

Now this is basically what I do manually all the time. Some programs are fairly good at taking cues from me, Tag and rename does a lot of stuff with a few clicks.. it can rename groups, take tags from filenames, but it won't try if it can figure out the filenames itself, it requires user input to specify how a filename is made up. It even grabs tag info from allmusic.com and freedb, neato, but it doesnt do this in a smart way

Does anyone know a SMART tag/namer that will just try its best, have good undo functionality and just goes at it as well as it can?

Indeed the Tag It looks amazing, however I do not see how I can add pictures to ID3 tag. It's very useful feature, and I use it a lot.

I took a brief look at it; is it only one-song-at-a-time? I didn't see any way, for instance, to either automatically extract the song information from the filename, or to group-tag an entire album.

Also missing was the "total tracks" to match up with "track number".

The Genre list should also allow manual entry, in place of the pre-selected list. I have my own Genres that match my needs.

Ive always found that windows media player is good for this. Just press on find album info , choose the right album and it updates it for you. It's pretty simple , but alot of people dont know about it.

It also does some pretty messy tagging. If you've ever looked at songs tagged w/WMP in a good tagging program you'll see all of the junk WMP puts in.

Also, typical of MS, they don't adhere to the id3 standards, but instead have created their own in for certain tag values..

I never see anyone recommend Ultratagger ( http://www.ultratagger.com/).

I like it a lot, is very easy to use.

Not free but reasonable registration.

I recently labelled all of my music en masse in just over two hours with Music Brainz (http://www.musicbrainz.org). It had over a 90% success rate in labeling songs based on their audio signatures. It was so good that I got a surprise in the form of an incorrectly labeled foreign track being revealed to have an even more obscure origin than I had thought.
