ok, i'm a bit confused with re-tagging my stuff....
I will soon use dr. tag to fix the multiple entries on my ipod....I'm not sure what the idv2 or idv3 (or whatever they are) tags are...I'm sure dr.tag is a simple program to use, but what do i need to know about the actual tags and process to execute.
also, do i have to retype all the artists, songs, etc, to fix my problem of multiple artists?
if someone out there is REALLY board, and would be kind enough to walk me through the process on what i will need to do/know to fix the multiple artists issue i'd really appreciate it....

# 1 Re: Tags
OK, it's really fairly simple. Never used Dr. Tag (id3-tagit, myself), but I'm sure it's the same.
First off, remove all the id3v1 tags from your songs. You're not going to need them. ID3v2 is the standard now and offers more capabilities.
There should be a button to remove id3v1 tags. Before you do that, just make sure your songs were also saved w/id3v2 tags, otherwise you'd lose everything. I'm sure they were, but just check.
Next, to fix the Artists/Albums/Genre tags you're going to want to do multiple tag editing. So, you'll probably do this this way:
Select all the songs from a particular artist. Using the multiple tag feature (check their help guide on using it), apply the Artist name so all the songs by that Artist all have the same name.
Next, you'll do Album tags. Select all the songs from an album, enter the album information and apply that to all the songs selected (again, using the multiple tag editing function). Do the same for all albums. You may also want to apply Genre's here, or you can do it at the Artist level if you categorize you Artists by Genre. It's your call.
You'll want to check the track number and track name fields individually, they'll probably be ok though.
Hope that helps. The help file should help you out...
