Replay Gain (Soundcheck?) Applied on MC9
According to this post (http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=display;num=1056 643876;start=100#108) over at the JRiver boards, Steve has released a beta of what I think is the "Soundcheck" feature. I'm not sure if he's implementing it like iTunes does (where you have to turn on Soundcheck for it to work), but either way, it's the same capability...
A hearty WOOT! to you all, happy podding and let's see if it works.

Adam-sama,
While I'm offline and while I'm not lookin' -- I want to ask you a personal favor.
Do whatever you can to convince our man at J River to make the iPod's "Sound Check" option toggle this. Imma post something on it, but you get around a lot more than I do, hehe, so I wanted to put it in yer head.

Adam, that link wouldn't work for me:( .
I can't find anything in the MC9 menus for soundcheck...Where exactly is it at?

Oh, sorry, it's supposedly in the newest plugin. I've got version 9.0.40 of the plugin (came w/.213 of MC9).
When you right-click the iPod you will see "Apply Replay Gain on Upload". You'll also see an option to Adjust DB Level (or something like that, it's at the bottom).
This allows you to mass adjust the volume + or - whatever db setting you check. So, with Replay Gain applied and booting your db level by say .5 you can get normalized songs and a louder iPod.
I think this is a solution for Euro-podders. At least the same functionality has been tried w/Xplay w/good results.

Man all this new stuff to try and I don't have time to fiddle with it.:(

Ok, the 9.40 plugin was withdrawn, took me half an hour to get this all figured out, but check this thread out:

I must of downloaded 213 after you Adam; I still have the 9.38 plugin--apparently they pulled the 9.40, and it's also not on the plugin page. But hopefully with build 214 it will be standard--can't wait to try it!

Well I tried it last night and it screwed my sound up. It made all the songs I ripped in MC9 lower, while making my other mp3's louder. What happened?
# 7 Re: Replay Gain (Soundcheck?) Applied on MC9
Did you do "analyze audio" for the songs not ripped in MC9? You gotta do this for it to work properly. It takes a few minutes, but it's not terrible--I did 40 last night, I'll finish the rest tonight..

# 8 Re: Replay Gain (Soundcheck?) Applied on MC9
Ok so I figured it out, but what do I do once I have finished analyzing them?
# 9 Re: Replay Gain (Soundcheck?) Applied on MC9
Nothing--the analysis is automatically stored. Go ahead and synch and use the gain. I think Adam recommended using a gain of 5%, because he lost a little volume when MC9 normalized. You should be all set one you've analyzed them.
Plus, now that you have everything analyzed, you can try making some smartlists with BPM and Intensity. I haven't had time to mess around much with those yet--I still have to clean up my library a bit and remake some playlists...

I was talking to Adam earlier and I told him I tried to up it +5 and it lowered the sound. so what i'm gonna try is to up it so that what my analysis said and what I set it at equals zero. If this does't make sense i'll try to explain better.
# 11 Re: Replay Gain (Soundcheck?) Applied on MC9
No I think I understand--let me know how it goes, I'll probably try it out tonight.

# 12 Re: Replay Gain (Soundcheck?) Applied on MC9
Ok so I just tried it. It stinks. The highest you can put it up to is 12dB and now they are quieter than they were before. Now how do I fix it so that they can get back to normal?
# 13 Re: Replay Gain (Soundcheck?) Applied on MC9
Hmm...You may have to synch with the option off, and report it to Jriver--it's still a work in progress. Kurt or Adam, whatcha think?

Well, if you're only on build .209, then I expect some pretty darned good stories mister...
