How do you move a song from one album to another album location on ipod

hi all,

can anyone tell me how i can change the album location for a song? i have a general "shared folder" album in my ipod where i stick "one-off" type songs, and i have some songs in that location, however, i have a bunch of other single songs that i would like moved to that location. I'm using music match and ephpod, will one of those programs allow me to move the songs that i want to into that "shared folder" album location in my ipod without duplicating the song on the ipod? thanks in advance everyone.

Huh!

You really sure you have a shared location for songs on your iPod? And Musicmatch lets you do this?

On most iPods the songs are randomly placed, by the syncer, in directories F00 tp F19. I guess there is a setting in ephPOD to place all of the songs in one directory but this is not a very good idea. Anyway, there it is not very likely that all of the songs from a single album would be in the same directory. BTW I just took a look at my directories and it looks like all of the songs are randomly placed. When EphPOD, or xPlay transfers the songs it updates the iPod database with the location of the song, and the iPod will find the song based on the song location. Are you sure musicmatch is not doing this? Also, the iPod, from all that I know, is not a mp3 player that will play by songs from a directory, so those singles must have the same id3 tags for album and artist, otherwise how would the iPod be able to group them? I believe what you are looking for lies with the id3 tags.

southside,

hmmmm, i'm new to this so i'm not sure how a "shared folder" album directory got placed on my ipod, but i think it may have to do with a file sharing program that i was using, kazaa (hmmmm am i saying too much here? :) ) kazaa, will put a "shared folder" directory in your pc's hardrive, i had some songs in that directory that i transferred over to my ipod using ephpod, some of the songs in my shared folder had an album specified in their tag, they got placed in a corresponding album location in my ipod, whereas, i'm speculating here, i will check later tonight when i go home, i think the songs that had no album specified, ephpod or ipod created a "shared folder" album on my ipod and threw those songs into that location................does that make sense?

i'm gonna try it out tonight and see if that's what's happening. If so, how do i go about changing the tags on my mp3's without creating dupes on my ipod. I have heard that if you change the tags within ephpod and resync, then it will create a dupe of the song with the changed tag..............how do i get around that? thanks for your help...............

Just to be clear, everything on the iPod is about tags. If you have an Album or Artist called "Shared Folder" it's because you have some songs that have that name in the Artist or Album tag field.

That's the only way that could happen. Get a good tag editor (www.id3-tagit.de is good and free), and check out all your songs.

A lot of people that use Kazaa think they have to keep their songs in that shared songs folder. You don't. Just move them after you've downloaded to a folder of your choice. Keep all your music in one place, it makes life easier. If you're still into Kazaa, you can share that music directory where you keep all your tunes.

another thing to consider is that when using ephpod, you can manually change the song's tag info by right clicking. Just make sure that the option is checked to change the original ID3 tag's info too.....unless of course you only want it changed on the ipod.
