xplay oesnt recognize my ipod

i got my computer to recognize that the ipod is connected to my computer, but now i can't get xplay to recognize it. the i tried retsarting my computer with the ipod both in and out but xplay still has a window up when i start saying that an ipod isnt connected. i even tried uninstalling it, then installing it again. please help

If you have the apple software installed, uninstall it. Also, make sure you have the mmjb ipod plugin uninstalled. That apple software can often cause problems. It could still be a firewire card issue, but let's start with the easy stuff.
Alternatively, if you don't want to uninstall the Apple software, make sure that in iPod Manager you have enabled firewire disk mode.
But do uninstall the MMJB iPod Plugin if you have that installed. It's icky.

why the hell did i listen to you sirkea?!?!!? you are freaking ######ed. i reinstalled my apple software, and guess what happend? all my tracks got deleted. You just costed me like 4 hours of work. I had songs from like 5 different computers. 2 of them i wont have acces to before i leave on a trip. thanks a lot. on top of this, xplay still doesnt recognize my iopd. Alright i am cool down now and still need help. I have xplay installed and apple software uninstalled and mmjb ipod connection uninstalled and for some reason, xplay still says my ipod isnt connected. please help and i will appreciate it no matter what, sirkea's help was a learning experience for me, dont reinstall the apple software and dont listen to sirkea.eastside19 at 2007-11-15 17:26:11 >

does the iPod show up in My Computer as an external drive?You might try the forums over at MediaFour, Annabel (if she's still there) is a great help (from MF).
Sorry that you lost your tunes, take it easy on sirkea, he was only trying to help. If you had installed the software w/o the iPod connected it would have worked. Of course, if you'd installed the iPod Updater software (which is all that's on the Apple CD) it would have been better. I think that's what sirkea was referring to. The CD has a setup process where it formats the iPod to Windows which is what happened to you.
But even better is to not have that crummy stuff on there, which you've wisely done.
Oh, one thing I thought of..did you upgrade to the latest version of Xplay when you installed it?

have no idea what model ipod you have but here's what you need to make things work with *any* ipod software in order of importance:1 - working ipod - what model do you have?
2 - ipod friendly firewire - what firewire card do you have?
3 - ipod with a drive letter? if it does is the drive letter unique to the pod or did windows steal it from a network drive? (that could be a hint to a fix) if it doesn't have a drive letter check your device manager for problems. no ipod software will work right if device manager is screwed up and musicmatch is notorious for screwing that up when it is uninstalled.
4 - xplay 1.1.3 - update from mediafour when you install it or download the update from their web site afterwards if you aren't already installing this version
