39Mb Unallocated?

Searched forums, searched FAQ, nuttin. Here goes. Hi again :)

I've just opened the Disk Management console on my windows XP Administrative Tools. The Ipod shows up.. but strangely it shows up as

- First a chunk, 39Mb, of Unallocated space
- Then 18.58GB Fat32 data.

Anyone know what gives with the 39MB? I doubt I'll risk reformatting the entire ipod for getting 39Mb extra but it does seem kinda weird?

Perhaps it's the portion of the harddrive that holds the menu and playback software for the ipod??

I should imagine that's not formatted normally, but in some special format that is ipod specific...

Well normally windows recognises the difference between a partition that is unformatted (like this one says it is) and formatted strangely.

But you're right it is possible. Still.. anyone know for sure?
