ephpod questions

I'm a newbie so please bare with me....

I used MMJB to load my music to ipod, and needless to say my stuff is all wacked up (mulitple artist, and multiple songs on the play lists)...

My questions are:

1. Do you recommend loading my cd's to mmjb, then transfering them to ephpod, or just transfering all my current music to ephpod and any thing new i want load up use ephpod..(by the way, what does the term "rip" mean...i told you i was a newbie)

2. If I unistall MMJB, would that erase all my music, or is that on the harddrive and accesable with or without mmjb?

3. Can you make playlists with ephpod?

4. can i tag albums/songs/artists with ephod?

i aplogize for the questions, but any help would be appreciated.

1. "Ripping" is copying music from a CD to the computer. What do you mean, transfer music to EphPod? The MP3s on your computer are just files, and independent of the program you use to interface with the iPod. Just install EphPod and use it in future.

2. This thread (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1504) (that also links to this one (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=524)) should be helpful, perhaps also in answer to question 1.

3. Yes, you can create playlists in EphPod.

4. You can't tag the MP3 files on your harddrive in EphPod, but you can change the entries in the iPod database. That is, you can change the information shown for the songs on the iPod (and also the tags of the MP3 files on the iPod, if you turn this on in the settings).

You also might want to check out the other programs that are available to you to transfer/rip/encode etc. One of them might be better suited to you. You can check out all the options in the Software Compendium ( http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2286).

Thanks for the help....

If you can't tag or rip cd's in ephpod do i just keep MMJB and use that software? And then from there, can i correct the tags in ephpod?

So, when i open ephpod, will i see all the cd's/songs that i have ripped in MMJB, and is that where i'm able to correct the tags?

sorry for the lame questions.

Not really a lame question, it confuses a lot of folks. Ephpod does one thing really, uploads to the iPod. When you launch ephpod you won't see the songs on your PC, you'll see the songs on the iPod. That's it. You can then edit those "tags", but you're not really editing tags, you're just changing the info in the iPod's database. Once you sync again, if you haven't also changed the tags on the files on your computer, the tags will be off on the iPod.

Again, it's kinda confusing. But once you understand what's going on it's fairly straightforward. It sounds like you're looking for an all-in-one solution--you won't find it in ephpod. You can check out MC9 for that.

Thanks again for the help...

so let me get this straight....When i launch ephpod, it basically takes the info OUT of the ipod and thats how it get onto my screen? and then i go through all the jacked up tags and correct them? would this work on the playlists as well (with the multiple entries)?

also, you have to have another piece of software to rip cd's then is this correct? after you rip the cd's, then does ephpod read the MP'3 files from your hard drive and then allow you to sync the newley ripped cd's?

Other then the tag issue and snyc issue i'm having with with MMJB, i dont have a problem with it...if i can clean those up with ephpod or dr.tag then i'm cool with that...

i'm sure that it's a lot easier than it sounds, i do appreciate your help.

Clean the tags on the PC with MMJB or some other tagging software. If you change tags with EphPod it only changes the files on the iPod and not on the PC.

Once you've cleaned all the tags, load up Ephpod and then you have a choice:

Either manuall point to the sub-dirs that hold your music and load them or

Go to the EphPod Config screen and add the folders (or just the root one if its all under one subdir as MMJB does it) to the sync list and then press sync. EphPod's syncing is pretty quick and worry free.

Good luck
